Solid wood floors are milled from a single piece of timber whereas engineered wood floors are made of a high-quality core with a thin layer of hardwood flooring on top. This is sometimes called the “wear layer” and can be between 2mm - 6mm thick in your chosen wood species. Visually you will see no difference whatsoever.
All wooden flooring will move as it’s a living, breathing entity but engineered floors will be much more restricted and therefore more suited to today's underfloor heating systems.
Some people believe that solid floors last longer and are more durable than engineered floors. In actual fact a 20mm engineered plank will last you just as long as a 20mm solid plank as the distance between the face of the plank and the tongue and groove is exactly the same.

While grading criteria and grade names can vary between manufacturers, they usually follow the following pattern:
Rustic Grade - feature more graining and colour variation. Larger quantities of sapwood and bigger knots are included, together with dark streaks and filled cracks.
Select Grade - Carefully picked for its few small knots and limited sapwood.
Prime Grade - The cleanest grade has few, if any knots, and these will be of minimal pin knot size. Core or edge sapwood and filler will be negligible if any at all.
In addition to these common grades we also offer Tumbled and Distressed, Fumed, Weathered and Sawn, River, Forest and Woodland Grades. Try not to get too confused, we always go on the theory that if you like what you see then that’s the one for you!

Absolutely. We securely fully bond all of our floors to the subfloor so the flooring will be perfectly fine in these rooms. Just remember to mop up any spills and “puddles” quickly so as to not let them soak in.

This question is the one that gets asked the most! We believe that you should enjoy your wooden floor and that it shouldn’t be hard work to maintain. A spray mop with a wood floor cleaner is the best way. The micro fibre mop will get in all those tiny grooves and textures and the wood floor cleaner will gently clean away all dust and dirt without leaving residues. Just let us know what your floor is finished with and we’ll point you in the right direction.
-
Yes, of course. The number of times this can be done is determined by the thickness of the wood. A professional sand would take approximately 0.5mm off the surface. If your floor is very old or damaged, you may want to consider a deep clean instead.
-
Yes, it is. If you have, or are planning to use, underfloor heating together with a wooden floor, please ask us about our Aftercare Advice PDF which contains more information on this subject.
-
Yes! In fact, we have our own shop dog named Rosie.
Wooden flooring finishes are generally more than tough enough to cope with pets claws, just make sure to clean up any accidents before they soak in!

Fully Bonded installation - This is our preferred method of fitting wood flooring and refers to each piece of the floor being stuck to the subfloor. This is the traditional way of fitting wood flooring over a solid subfloor. By fully bonding, the wooden floor will become a permanent fixture of your home, have less acoustics and eliminate all “bouncy hollow spots” that a floated floor may produce.
Floated installation - this refers to the unfixed timber floor floating over the subfloor. An underlay is put down and the timber floor is laid over the top. Floating floors WILL sometimes move, it's not a fault, but a side effect of the system. As moisture content changes in the home the floor will expand and contract, causing movement in the un-fixed floor.
